Eastern screech-owls are native to Michigan and throughout much of eastern North America. They have the broadest ecological niche of any North American owl and are found in all kinds of habitats below 1500 meters elevation. They also have the most varied diet of any owl in North America. Eastern screech-owls will eat small mammals, small birds, insects, earthworms, amphibians and reptiles.
We currently have two eastern screech-owls at Sarett named Rufus and Owlive. They both suffered an injuries in the wild and were not able to be released back after time with a wildlife rehabilitator. Visit them inside the Nature Center today!
