The Eastern American toad is one of two toads found in Michigan, the other being the uncommon Fowler’s toad. The Eastern American toad is a very common amphibian and can be found statewide in woodlands, shady backyards and gardens.
They have short, muscular legs used for walking and brown, warty skin. Contrary to the myth, you can not get warts from touching a toad! These toads do have skin secretions, however, that make the toad distasteful to predators.
