Woodcock Walk – Canceled

April 4, Saturday, 8:30 pm - Join a Sarett naturalist for an evening walk looking and listening for the courtship song, dance and aerial display of the American Woodcock. Sarett Nature Center is canceling all programs through April 5th. Our trails will remain open throughout this time.

Sarett’s Spring Birding Bunch – Canceled

April 4, Saturday, 8:00 am—Welcome back the spring migrants with Sarett’s annual Saturday morning Birding Bunch. Sarett Nature Center is canceling all programs until social distancing guidelines allow us to continue. Our trails will remain open throughout this time.

Virtual Spring Stampede 5K Run/Walk

Due to the recommendations from the CDC and the State of Michigan, we are changing the Sarett Spring Stampede 5K into a virtual race. With a virtual race you can run the 5K distance anywhere, for example in your neighborhood, on a treadmill, at a nearby park or on the 5K course here at Sarett Nature Center. You will have between Saturday, April 11th and Sunday, April 19th to complete your 5K. Once you have the 5K completed you will send in your time to the run sign-up website. The Spring Stampede course will be set up and ready for use anytime between April 11th and 19th. The entry fee is $20 before March 21st, 2020 and $25 after March 21st, 2020.  You can mail your entry form at to: Mike Mahler at Sarett Nature Center, 2300 Benton Center Rd., Benton Harbor, MI 49022. Sarett’s Spring Birding Bunch

April 18, Saturday, 8:00 am—Welcome back the spring migrants with Sarett’s annual Saturday morning Birding Bunch. These gatherings are designed for birders of all levels. Each session will start at the nature center and then travel to where the birds are the best. Bring your binoculars and a desire to learn about and see birds. Junior Naturalist Club

A special club for kids ages 7-12 who are really interested in nature. Find out what it means to be a Sarett naturalist. We’ll learn about the animals of Sarett and their care, do projects, and have a lot of fun as we discover the natural world. Club size is limited. We will also meet May 23. Fee $6.00/session. Call 269-927-4832 to register or if you have questions. Membership required. Class runs from 10 a.m to Noon.

Wildflower Walk at Dowagiac Woods

April 19, Sunday, 2:00 PM - Join a Sarett naturalist for an easy walk through one of our favorite springtime woods. Dowagiac Woods is known for its abundance and variety of ephemeral spring wildflowers—trillium, Dutchmen’s breeches, spring beauty, and so much more. Earth Day Stewardship Event & Activity Day

April 25, Saturday - Celebrate Earth Day with a morning of service to Mother Nature from 10:00 AM to Noon. We will be replacing some invasive plants with wildlife friendly trees and shrubs. We will also have a self-paced Earth Day themed walk and self-directed Earth Day activities all day. Members & children/FREE, Non-members $3.00.

Massasauga Rattlesnake Conservation Program with John Ball Park Zoo

April 26, Saturday, 2:00 PM - Eastern Massasauga rattlesnakes (aka the Michigan Rattler) are one of the most interesting reptiles of the Great Lakes region. Sarett welcomes experts from the John Ball Zoo to share insights into the amazing lives of Michigan’s only venomous snake. John Ball Zoo is one of the leaders in Massasauga recovery as the rattlesnake was recently added to the Endangered Species List.

32nd Annual Southwest Michigan Team Birdathon

Join us for the 32nd Annual Southwest Michigan Team Birdathon, taking place on Saturday, May 16th, 2020. The Birdathon is a friendly birding competition to raise money for your favorite non-profit organization. Last year teams raised $18,695 for non-profit organizations and over the 31 years that the event has been held, a grand total of $798,695 was raised for non-profits! Form a team with at least 3 of your birding buddies, choose a non-profit organization to raise money for and join us for a fun day of birding. Your team raises money by getting pledges per species of bird seen or a fixed pledge. The event begins at 12:00 am and goes to 7:00 pm. You can bird anywhere in Berrien County, but must be at the finish line at Sarett Nature Center by 7:00 pm. We will have dinner at the nature center and an awards presentation following dinner.The entry fee is $32/person, which includes event t-shirt (please add $2 for XXL t-shirts) and dinner.
